How to Send Your Wedding Flowers to Bloomy Days Using Your Own Box
Sending your wedding flowers to Bloomy Days yourself? This guide will walk you through how to safely pack and post your blooms to our studio for preservation.
If you’re not using one of our Bloom Boxes, you can still arrange your own postage using a sturdy box and a few simple packing materials. The goal is to keep your flowers cool, hydrated before packing, upright where possible and protected during transit.
Your bouquet has already had a very big day, so this part matters. A little care here can make a big difference to how your flowers arrive and what our team has to work with when preserving them.
Is self-shipping right for you?
Shipping your flowers using your own box may be a good option if:
- You already have a suitable box available
- You feel confident packing fresh flowers safely
- You can arrange Express Post
- You have someone organised who can pack and send your flowers after the wedding
- You are not able to drop your flowers to our studio in person

What you’ll need
Before your wedding day, we recommend organising everything your nominated flower-packing person will need. Choose someone reliable to be in charge of your flowers after the wedding. This could be your partner, mum, sister, bridesmaid, friend or wedding coordinator.
- A strong cardboard box large enough for your bouquet
- A plastic pot, jar or vase to help keep the bouquet upright
- Paper towel
- Cling wrap or foil for the stem ends only
- Packing paper, tissue paper (ideal) bubble wrap or soft void fill (avoid peanut foam as it sticks to flowers)
- Tape
- Scissors or secateurs
- Your Bloomy Days order details

Your postage label (this can be picked up at Aus Post at the time of posting your flowers)
Please make sure your box is large enough that your flowers are not squashed, but not so large that they can roll around inside. We want supported blooms, not a bouquet doing laps around the box.
After the wedding
After your wedding, place your flowers into fresh water as soon as possible.
Keep them in a cool, dark room and away from direct sunlight, heaters, windows and hot cars. If your flowers are not being posted immediately, change the water daily until they are packed and sent.
Fresh flowers can deteriorate quickly, especially after a full wedding day, so please post them to us as soon as possible.
When should you send your flowers?
Your flowers should be sent to us as soon as possible after your wedding.
We recommend using Aus Post - Express Post. The sooner your flowers arrive at our studio, the better the preservation outcome is likely to be.
If your wedding is on a weekend, have your nominated person keep the flowers in fresh water in a cool, dark room and send them on the next suitable business day.
If there is a public holiday, heatwave or known postage delays around your wedding date, please plan ahead. Flowers and delays are not besties.
How to pack your flowers using your own box

- Waiting several days before posting
- Sending flowers sitting in water
- Wrapping the flower heads in plastic, cling wrap or bubble wrap
- Using a flimsy or damaged box
- Using a box that is too small and crushes the blooms
- Using a box that is too large without filling the empty space
- Sending flowers loose without support
- Forgetting to include your name and order number
We know wedding weeks are busy, but this is one of those jobs worth organising before the champagne starts flowing.
Can I send extra flowers?
Yes, if you have extra flowers available, we recommend including them.
Extra blooms give our team more choice when designing your final piece, especially if some flowers have been damaged during the wedding day or during transit.
You can include flowers from your bouquet, bridesmaid bouquets, ceremony flowers or other meaningful arrangements, as long as they are suitable for your order.
Can I send my buttonhole too?
Yes, you can send your buttonhole if it is part of your preservation order.
Buttonholes are delicate, so we recommend placing them in a small separate container or box inside the main box where they will not be crushed by the bouquet.
Please make sure your buttonhole is clearly included with your order details so our team knows it is intended for preservation.
Can I include ribbon, charms or sentimental items?
You can include ribbon, charms, photos, vows or other sentimental items if they are part of your order or if our team has asked you to send them.
Please place these items in a separate labelled bag or envelope inside the box so they do not get damp or lost among the flowers.
If there are sentimental items you do not want preserved or framed, please remove them before sending.
What condition should my flowers be in?
Fresh flowers are natural and delicate, and they will often show some signs of wear after a wedding.
Some bruising, softening, browning, fading or petal damage can happen from heat, handling, transport or the wedding day itself. This does not automatically mean your flowers cannot be preserved.
When your flowers arrive, our team will assess them and choose the best blooms and details for your final piece. If there are any concerns around the quality of your flowers, our team will reach out and discuss your options with you.
A note about postage risk
We will always do our best with the flowers we receive, but once flowers are in transit, postage conditions and delays are outside our control.
That is why careful packing, fast delivery and planning ahead are so important. The goal is to get your blooms to us quickly, safely and with as little movement as possible.
